Story of the Book
Johnathan Hanh Nguyen’s story spans two of the most consequential chapters in modern Vietnamese history: the years of isolation and embargo that followed 1975, and the decades of reform, opening, and extraordinary economic growth that came after. He was present, and consequential, at both transitions.
Metro Writers was engaged to record this life in full: the vision, the sacrifice, the patriotism that runs beneath the commercial achievement, and the human story behind four decades of institution-building. The biography was produced in both English and Vietnamese, drawing on extensive personal interviews, archive access, and conversations with Johnathan’s family and colleagues. Michael Arnold’s profile of Johnathan for Tatler Vietnam, published as part of the research for this project, provides a public snapshot of the man and the story the book records in full.
JHN is produced as a private publication for Johnathan’s family and for the historical record. It is a work whose value lies not in public distribution but in preservation – a permanent account of a life that has helped shape the country its subject has spent four decades serving.
Some lives are too consequential to leave to memory alone. This is one of them.
