In that time, she has written across most of the formats a story can take: journalism and long-form features, branded articles and interviews, event scripts, short video content, podcasts, magazines, brand books, and the occasional autobiography. Biography

Sade Ho – also known as Hai Yen Ho – is a Vietnamese bilingual writer based in Ho Chi Minh City. Over more than a decade since her university days, she has worked in journalism through long-form features and branded articles, event scripts, podcasts, magazines, brand books, and biographical book projects.

Her bylines include Tuoi Tre, Zing News, Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam, L’Officiel Vietnam, Tatler Vietnam, World of Watches Vietnam, and Luxuo Vietnam. Brand and editorial credits include BIM Group, Diageo, Park Hyatt, Sun Group, Masterise, and Shiseido. For Metro Writers, she was a lead interviewer on The Queen of King Coffee (2024), the bilingual autobiography of King Coffee founder Le Hoang Diep Thao.

She currently collaborates with CRS New York and the art-lifestyle platform Only Love ART on essays that move between memoir and travel writing. Her personal writing – film criticism, cultural history, and travelogue – is collected at haiyenhowriter.wordpress.com.

“Konnichiwa,” said the woman behind the supermarket counter as I placed an armful of groceries before her. “Konnichiwa,” I replied absently. Here, almost everyone seems to think I am Japanese. Nearly a week has passed, yet I’ve barely spoken a word, except for the occasional, necessary exchange. Even my name, “Yen,” sounds indistinguishable from the Japanese currency. That assumption has become so natural that I no longer feel the need to correct it. Here, in this moment, identity has lost its weight.

True stillness of the mind is not the kind that depends on one’s surroundings — and yet, the two are quietly intertwined. It takes a certain kind of space to drain the lingering noise from one’s thoughts. It took me some time to realize that my kind of space is one that bears the traces of time but is emptied of human presence.
